Practice passing, stopping and dribbling with Mr. Diego & Mr. Eddie

Supplies Needed:

  • Soccer ball (or tennis ball)
  • a Wall
  • a Buddy
  • 4 Cones (if you don’t have cones you can use shoes or balled up t-shirts)

Warm Up:

  • Feet together, reach with your hands and try to touch your toes, hold for 10 seconds
  • Feet apart standing up, both hand try to reach you right toe, hold for 10 seconds then switch to the left toe and hold for 10 seconds
  • Standing up try to stand on your left foot only with your right leg a little lifted off the ground, the right foot rotate your foot left and right for 10 seconds(help warm up your ankle), after you are done switch and rotate the left ankle left and right
  • While standing on both feet, have both feet flat, next you will go from being flat on your feet to slowly only being on ten toes(help warm up your calves), repeat this 10 times and you are ready for the drills

Drill #1:

(For Drill #1 you’ll need a wall, yourself, and a ball)

  • Go outside and find a nice wall you’ll be able to kick the ball against
  • Once you find a wall you’ll take 5 big steps back
  • Once you are five steps away from the wall, place the ball on the floor
  • Here comes the fun part, get ready to kick the ball against the wall
    • Kick the ball hard enough so once it hits the wall it will come back to you
  • HOW TO KICK THE BALL!
    • When you go to kick the ball, we are simply passing it to the wall and it will return the pass
    • When you go to kick the ball DO NOT HIT IT WITH YOUR TOE!
      • To kick the ball use the inside part of your foot
      • You’ll bring your foot and leg back and once you get closer to the ball rotate your foot so the inside of the foot makes contact with the ball.

4 Ways to Pass a Soccer Ball - wikiHow

  • When you pass the ball to the wall be ready to stop the ball
  • How to stop the ball
    • When you go to stop the ball, with the same foot you kick the ball you’ll want to open your hip, with your foot rotated the same as when you passed the ball
    • Unlike when you passed the ball, stopping the ball only requires a light little touch so the ball could either be right next to your foot or barely in front of your foot
  • Once you stopped the ball repeat the steps 10 times for your dominant foot and then switch to your weak foot and do it 10 more times.

Drill #2:

(For this drill you’ll need a ball, two cones, and a buddy)

  • For this drill you’ll need two cones
    • You’ll need to place the cones 10 footsteps apart( Heel to Toe)(Ex. Down below)

10 Steps

  • Once the cones are set up, each person go to a cone
  • Once each person is at a cone one will have the ball on their side, the person with the ball will begin by passing the ball(with their right foot)  to the other person
  • The person receiving the ball will stop the ball with their left foot and then pass it across to the other person with their right foot
  • Both Players will stop the ball with their left foot and pass it with their right foot
  • Once both players have passed the ball 10 times with their right foot, we will switch to passing the ball with their left foot and stopping the ball with their right foot
  • When you switch feet, repeat it so you pass the ball with your left foot 10 times

Drill #3

(For this drill you’ll need 2 cones, a ball, yourself, and a buddy)

  • For this drill you’ll need two cones
    • You’ll need to place the cones 10 footsteps apart( Heel to Toe)

10 Steps Apart

  • Once the cones are set up, each person go to a cone
  • Once each person is at a cone one will have the ball on their side, the person with the ball will begin by passing the ball(with their right foot)  to the other person
  • The person receiving the ball WILL NOT STOP THE BALL, the person receiving the ball must see where it is going and pass the ball back with their first touch
  • Both players will each get one touch to pass the ball back, both players will start off by using their right foot, be mindful and try not to kick the ball so hard as it will be harder to pass the ball back
  • Once both players have passed the ball back and forth 10 times they will switch and repeat the drill but with their left foot

Drill #4:

(For this drill you’ll need 4 cones, a ball, yourself, a buddy is optional)

  • For this drill you’ll put the cones in a straight line, each cone will be 5 steps apart(heel to toe)
  • This is a dribbling drill, which means you’ll be running with the ball
  • HOW TO DRIBBLE
    • When you dribble with the ball you’ll extend your dominant foot so your toes are pointing forward, when you go to dribble with your toes pointed out you want the top of your shoe (section between your toes and laces) to make contact with the ball
    • Lightly touch the ball so it won’t roll out of your control
  • When the cones are set, pick a side to start on
  • When you start go in an S shape figure through the cones until you get to the end (see example below)
  • When you get to the end, you’ll switch it to your left foot and repeat the drill
  • Every time you get to the end of the cones switch foot, you’ll do this 5 times for each foot
