Mexican chocolate is made up of cacao nibs, sugar, and cinnamon. This type of hot chocolate has a more granular texture than what most are used to. The two most popular brands that are available in the U.S. are “Ibarra” and Nestle’s “Abuelita”. Show us your Mexican Hot Chocolate in the comments below.

Materials:

  1. Mexican Hot Chocolate Tablet
  2. Wooden spoon, or whisk
  3. Saucepan
  4. Milk
  5. Cinnamon (optional)

Step 1: The tablets of hot chocolate are usually divided into 6 to 8 wedges. We will be using 2 (3 ounce) tablets for 3-4 cups of hot chocolate. You can add more than two tablets of hot chocolate for an even sweeter taste.

Step 2: Pour four cups of milk into your saucepan and place it over medium heat.

Step 3: When the milk begins to bubble, add in your hot chocolate pieces. Continue heating and stirring your mixture. Continue to do so until your hot chocolate tablets are completely dissolved.

Step 4: Do not let your milk boil. If it looks as if it is going to start boiling, keep stirring but turn the burner down a bit. After the milk cools down a bit, return the pan to medium heat.

Step 5: (optional) You can add a bit more cinnamon to your hot chocolate for a sweeter taste.

Step 6: You’re done! You can pour your hot chocolate into your mug, add marshmallows or whipped cream if you’d like, and you’re done. Enjoy!
