This is a simple experiment you can try with household items. Ms. Nikki shows you how you can make a lemon erupt like a volcano.
Directions:
- Start by cutting the bottom off of the lemon halves so they stands straight
- Using the spoon, break up the inside of the lemon a bit. We need the juice to react with the baking soda.
- Add your food coloring to the inside of the lemon.

- Pour baking soda over the top of the lemon and watch what happens.
- You can add more baking soda and stir with your spoon slightly to see what happens

Lemon is the acid. Lemons, like limes, are citrus fruits. Citrus fruits are recognized for their sour flavor because of citric acid. The baking soda you used served as a base.
