Learn how to make a ‘Robot’ Hand in this tutorial. Show us your robot hands in the comments below, we’d love to see them!

Materials:

  1. String or yarn
  2. Scissors
  3. Glue
  4. Straws
  5. Paper
  6. Pencil

Step 1: Trace your hand out on the paper.

Step 2: Cut out the hand you traced.

Step 3: Put that to the side and begin cutting your straw into smaller pieces. You need three small pieces per finger except the thumb. Then you need five longer pieces for the “palm” of your hand shape. The last longer piece is optional.

Step 4: Glue your straw pieces onto your hand. Make sure the bottom, longer pieces meet slightly at the bottom of your hand.

Step 5: Take your string (or yarn) and put an individual piece through all your straw pieces for each finger. After each finger, loop the string through the first straw piece (at the top of each finger) to keep it in place. If you want to keep all the bottom strings organized, put them through a straw piece and tie it in place too.

Step 6: You’re done. You can pull on all the strings to get all the fingers to move and the hand to close. If you wanted to, you can pull on individual strings to get certain fingers to come down.
