In this activity you will practice the scientific method with Marshmallow Bunny Peeps. Fill out the worksheet to keep track of your experiment. Download your worksheet here.

Materials:

  1. Marshmallow Peeps
  2. Clear Jars (the amount of jars will be dependent on the number of solutions that you choose)
  3. Solutions for the Peeps to soak in (salt water, baking soda water, etc.)
  4. Liquid for the Peeps to soak in (vinegar, water, milk, oil, etc.)

Key Words:

Solution: a mixture of two or more substances

Hypothesis: a prediction based on evidence

Test: experimenting to see if your hypothesis is correct

Analyze: review your experiment & the data that you collected

Step 1: Choose the mixtures that you would like to soak your peeps in. I chose milk, water & vinegar.

Step 2: Place each Peep into your clear container and fill up each container with ½ cup to 1 cup of the chosen liquid to cover the Peep. Make your hypothesis on your worksheet & then begin noting your observations.

Step 3:  Decide how long you will leave the Peeps to soak in the various liquids. I chose to leave mine overnight & made observations at the one hour mark, the three hour mark and the next morning.

One Hour
Three Hours
The Next Day

Step 4:  Note your observations on the worksheets. Was your hypothesis correct? Here are the end results of my experiment.

Questions:

  1. Was your hypothesis correct?
  2. How long did you soak your peeps in liquid?
  3. What surprised you?
